Subtractor Basics by Reason Tutorials
Simple yet powerful the Subtractor synth has been a part of Propellerheads Reason since version 1. Its is a lovely little utility synth that manages to pack a hell of a lot of oomph in a very small front panel. I have found over the years that the Subtractor is very good for lead and Bass sounds and even now we have access to the Thor the Subtractors filter section still stands up as being better for “Squidgy” bass style sounds.
Creating Sounds With The Subtractor by Reason Freaks
For soundcreation the Subtractor is just my favourite tool. It’s just so flexible and intuitive. You really can get the sound you want real fast. And with it’s very clear and user friendly setup it is just a perfect tool for creating very complex and analog sounding sounds. although it’s digital it truly sounds very analog, but without all the problems vintage analog gear can bring. Like tuning problems and notes falling of at unexpected times and such. In this article i will shine a light on the functions and how to use them to achieve the sounds you want.
Subtractor Waveforms by Psylux
This page started life as a reference I was compiling for my own use and began with page 101 of the Reason Operation Manual. I was curious about the exact characteristics of each waveform while I was using UI Software’s Metasynth program and began to open up and analyze samples made by the Subtractor synth just for fun. After screen capturing each waveform, I also used Mac the Scope for the spectral analysis of the harmonic content and added that as well. I am in no way affiliated with Propellerhead and if any content here requires additional clarification on that point or violates anything I have not thought of, I can be reached here. My purpose is to give Reason users a resource so that maybe a few people might be inspired to explore more of the possibilities of this great software and share the results with the rest of us.
