Build a Stereo, Filtered Delay Combinator by AudioTuts
One thing that always struck me about the application was its lack of a serious stereo delay unit. Although the advanced reverb and standalone delays are great, I felt I needed something with a little more firepower to use in my projects. Of course delay units are supplied in the factory section of the Reason library but creating a custom device is so much more rewarding.
Create a Stereo BPM-locked Delay Effect by AudioTuts
Stereo echoes are great to fill up a track with some added ambience. They can be used to make a synth trail off, or a beat bounce. In this tutorial I will show you how to create a slap-back BPM locked delay using 2 DDL-1 effect boxes. This effect can be used on anything. This tutorial uses Reason, but the principles should be the same in any DAW.
How to Set Up Creative Delays by AudioTuts
It’s always been fun to play around with devices in Reason. When it comes to creating a unique device, synth or effect, you have limitless possibilities. You could call it playing Lego with audio devices. In this tutorial I will continue building blocks and explain three different ways to set up DLL-1 devices within Combinator.
Getting Down and Dirty with Delay by Propellerhead Software
Our mission today, then, will be to build our own in the garage. We’ll be using the trusty old DDL-1 digital delay as a starting point for these patches, and on that foundation we’ll add some flavor and spice to give the delay a unique texture. We’re presenting two patches; the first is a lo-fi delay from the olden days, and the second is a more complex and spaced out creation from an unspecified time in the future.
Patches and ReFills
TripTronic TL Combis by Peff
Tape Loop Patches that use several DDL-1 Delay Lines in series to create a long loop effect. Signal Processing added to slowly degrade the repeated signals. TL8 is an 8 second loop and the TL24 is a 24 second loop.
Stereo DDL-1 Combi by Peff
Super basic Stereo DDL-1 configuration with an equal power crossfader. Handy for doing some funky beat juggling or transitional delay effects.
Stereo Filter Delay by Teknolab
The right and the left channel are separately and differently delayed (in whole steps) and then filtered. The output is routed to both the main output and back into the delay. The filtertype is LP or BP with soft or hard resonance. The stepsize can be set to 1/16 or 1/8T.
Sway Delay by Resonant Filter
I used to have this bandmate that seemed to always find the greatest gear at thrift stores and pawn shops. I remember at one practice he brought his latest acquisition – an old tape delay unit. I can’t for the life of me remember what brand it was, but it didn’t work quite right, which was really the charm of the old thing. The motor wobbled, so the delays sort of wandered and sometimes dashed and rather than fix the unit we’d just try to keep time with it (much to our drummer’s dismay.) Point being, I was thinking about that old delay unit and realized I could build something akin to it in Reason -The Sway Delay.
CV Delay by Resonant Filter
I was messing around last night with some of my favorite plug-ins in Ableton Live and decided maybe it was time to revisit the CV Delay Combinators I was creating in the Spring. This new one, Version 5 for those of you counting, is based on the same principles but can go from subtle to glitchy with the press of a button.
AutoTEASPOONer by Resonant Filter
This effect really needs to be set for whatever piece of music you’re using it on, which is fairly easy. Just flip the back side around, turn off the CV on Rotary 3, and rotate thru the settings finding one or two glitches for each matrix pattern in the combinator.
PingPongXDigiplex by Peff
This configurations uses the PingPong Delay and adds cross feedback cabling. Careful with the feedback settings, they can lead to some nasty results.
SuperMultiTap5 by Peff
Hardware Configuration for setting up a Mono Input Stereo Output Multi-tap Delay with Feedback – be careful using the Feedback levels!
SuperMultiTap By Peff
Hardware Configuration for setting up a Mono Input Stereo Output Multi-tap Delay.
PingPongDelay by Peff
A different configuration of Ping Pong delay which actually pans the Effect Send signal between two delay modules.

Signal Feedback Looping and Space Echo by Synthsonix
Reason Tutorial that uses the auxiliary outputs of the Mixer to create a feedback audio signal loop. The effect is then enhanced by the addition of a delay and tape compression unit, and then further by a band pass filter to create a warm analog style slap and dub type delay mimicking a vintage technique of the hardware masters.
