Setting Up Audio in Mac OS X for Record by Propellerhead Software
All Mac models come with a built-in audio interface, providing stereo input and output jacks (and in some cases a built-in microphone). Depending on your needs, the quality of these inputs and outputs may be fully sufficient for use with Record. However, the system presents the built-in inputs and outputs as two or three individual audio devices. This means that by default, you can only select the “Built-in Output” option in Record’s Preferences. This works fine for playback, but since you get no inputs at all, you cannot record audio. To gain access to both built-in inputs and outputs, you need to create an “Aggregate Device”, combining inputs and outputs into one “virtual” audio device. This is done in the Aggregate Device Editor.
How Do I Optimize Audio Performance in Record? by Propellerhead Software
You generally want the lowest possible latency when playing an instrument in Record in real time. However, selecting too low a latency might result in playback problems (clicks, pops, dropouts, etc.). The procedure for adjusting latency can differ depending on your audio card, driver and your operating system.
Setting Up Multiple Soundcards in Windows for Record
In Windows in programs like Ableton, I’m able to select my USB audio interface for the audio input while still having the output set to my external speakers. In Record, I can’t seem to configure it any other way than having my audio interface act as both the input and output. Is there any way to get around this?
For Windows the Asio4all driver will allow you to achieve what your after. Download and install it. www.asio4all.com. Once installed select the Asio4all driver in Records Audio preference menu. now load the control panel for asio4all. Select advanced. You can then enable and disable all the soundcards that are present in your system. Once you have enabled all the inputs and outputs within the asio4all control panel. close the control panel. Now on the audio preferences menu press input channel button and enable your desired inputs. then do the same for your output channels. You should now be able to select your inputs and outputs on your audio tracks within Record.
